Random Notes

The past couple of weeks have been mostly work, but a few things of interest have happened:

  • I finally visited the Union Coffee Roaster coffee shop in Ayer. Good coffee, fantastic blueberry-coconut muffin!
  • I drove home from work via Route 2A instead of taking the highway (Route 2). What a beautiful drive! The road has been recently repaved so it's smooth sailing the entire way to John Fitch Highway, and during non-rush hour, just as fast.
  • I bought two tickets to see Aly & AJ on June 28th. It's turning into a very "poppy" concert season.
  • I bought a pair of black selvage denim from Brave Star. Size 42x36 for maximum room and shrink resistance. Due in July.
Other than that, not much to report, other than Dad & Ma will be in California from the 1st to the 10th...

UGH!

Including this coming Saturday's closing shift, I'll have put in nearly 120 hours over the last 2 weeks. WTF?

  • My new store's other ASM went on a much-deserved vacation a week ago Monday (the 7th).
  • My new store's new manager's car went into the shop later that week.
  • My new store's manager fell at work and broke her arm (and cell phone) on my only day off during this span (Friday the 11th), but I wasn't able to go in.
  • I had to work open to close that Saturday (the 12th).
  • I had to work open to close Tuesday (the 15th).
  • I had to work open to close yesterday (Wednesday the 16th).
Thankfully the other ASM returned late last night, and (poor thing) will work 2 doubles and a morning until I have to return on Saturday afternoon, but JEEZ!

---------------------------------------------------------

Today:
  • I slept in until 9 am.
  • I had coffee & apple pie for breakfast, and caught up on tv shows.
  • I sat online all day, did laundry, and had Domino's for a late lunch (2 pm).
  • I showered and then had coffee & apple pie for supper.
  • I watched tv all evening.
I have tomorrow off too, and am thinking of a day trip to Boston...

Shudder & Boom

I was driving home from work Monday night, and near the Shirley Exit on Rt 2 West my driver's side rear tire blew apart.

I was able to get off the highway into the John Deere entrance, and AAA came to change my tire within 30 minutes. All in all, it was an unfortunate event that was resolved rather quickly. And I still made it home before my old store would have begun closing!

I bought two new tires at Tire Warehouse the next morning, so all is well again...

Shelf

A photo of some stuff I have displayed, in order to gaze upon it from time to time:

In no particular order:
  • Mantis from "Guardians of the Galaxy".
  • An Imaginext space ape astronaut.
  • A shark-ish warrior from the Battle Beast toy line from the 80's. It's been with me through high school and beyond (the oldest item on these shelves).
  • A sexy denim-clad girl.
  • A super hot bikini girl on a coral base.
  • A black Starbucks demitasse cup.
  • A black stormtrooper from the "Star Wars" films.
  • Daenerys Targaryen and Drogon from "Game of Thrones".
  • A small mug covered in a bookshelf design, given to me for Christmas by Michele F. back in 1999.
  • A silver Sagittarius ring.
  • A tiny brass statue of a Hindu deity I bought on Martha's Vineyard at the turn of the century.
  • A blue 1950 Ford F-1 pickup truck with surfboards ("Hermosa Beach Bums") from the Johnny Lightning die cast series (1997).
  • A Zippo lighter with a 1920's flapper girl engraved. Jen M. has the twin (a spiffy dressed up man).

Finches No More

Today was my last day at my original store, before heading off to my new one on Sunday...

I got a ton done, both last night and this morning, and left on a high note, with the store in a great place. I got to work with Arthur last night, and today I got to work with Lori, Chris and Julio. A good way to go.

It's hot & humid right now, but my first Meal of Freedom is Domino's (on the way). And I don't work again until Sunday afternoon.
